Community: Impression on the first 2 weeks of Outtatown

Being tossed into a community like Outtatown is very different then building a community within your comfort zone. In the Outtatown program, we have to take huge strides away from our comfort zones. It is quite weird actually, because it is now October and we have only been together for three weeks, but it feels like three months or even more. The community we have built is amazing because we are already making people feel at home even though we don’t know each other very well yet. It is fascinating to watch how God works in tight situations.

One evening we spent two hours developing our community mission statement and we came up with this: As a genuine and united body we are committed to loving God and others while growing individually and spiritually. We agree to respect, accept, forgive, encourage, trust, be compassionate and to hold each other accountable. Through this life style of worship we will grow in love.

Our community is also there to solve problems as they arise and not let them to sit in our hearts and brew more problems when emotions run high. This is definitely a community worth committing to. It’s so exciting to be a part of.

This was a team building exercise- build a tower out of spagetti noodles and marshmellows! The tallest tower wins!

We also had a worship night. It is a very cool thing when 30 people across Canada and the US can come together and worship with shared music.

We have also played a bunch of fun games. This one is called the Bowl Game. The last round a person needs to act out what is written on a piece of paper under a sheet. Kelly did an amazing job by using big actions and rolling on the ground. She was able to get her team members to figure out who she was. Can you guess who she was trying to be?!

Dutch Blitz is another classic Outtatown pass time. It is also a good stress reliever- especially when there is homework to be done! When you play you forget that you even have homework!

Nikkita and Rebecca

Trevor and Shannon chillin' in the common room.

Adorable! Elizabeth, Jill, Charissa and Janine.

Van rides are fun times listening and singing to music, taking glamor shots and playing any type of game to pass the time away. Kristin and Rebecca playing the Whose camera is it game?

Jason, Jill, Heather, Trevor and Ethan.

More van ride pictues: Jeremy and Nic are happy they got to ride in the Mini Van.

A good way to get to know each other is through a massive game of spoons!

Its Fall everybody! Alida, Kristine, Emma and Marisa being kids again!

A happy trio skipping outside: Christina, Rachel and Elizabeth.

Darin, isn't Rachel's sweater a little too small for you!

Living in community is amazing. Living in community surrounded by amazing scenery is even better.
